Course Overview

This course will provide you with advanced teaching skills, analysing the original Pilates method and the associated contraindications. You will study the difference between traditional and contemporary approaches to Pilates, and you will break down and analyse the technique of the original method. You will understand how to modify and adapt original movements. You will also learn about postural movement assessment and analysis in depth, and static postural assessment, developing skills to work with 121 clients and design programmes based on specific results. Not only will you develop advanced teaching skills, but you will also learn how to plan, prepare and work with advanced-level clients and classes.

These are the learning outcomes offered from this course

eLearning: Part 1: The Classical Mat Pilates Repertoire – You will study the traditional methods, analysing technique and identifying the technical demands. You will look at adaptation and modification and biomechanics of movement efficiency.

Part 2: Postural and movement assessment – identifying specific postural and movement assessments to identify muscular imbalances and to be able to set and design specific correctional programmes for clients with a person centred approach.

 

Teaching clinics: The teaching clinics are tutor led, looking at the breakdown of exercises to develop your own technique and teaching skills. The teaching clinics will study 19 of the 34 exercises at advanced level.

Practical: Your practical course will study brand new exercises not covered on the teaching clinics, there are 15 in total. Following the practical and teaching clinics all 34 exercises will have been studies at advanced level. The practical day will have teaching practice and tutor led guidance of postural and movement assessment.

Entry RequirementsLevel 3 Diploma in Mat Pilates (if coming in just for the L4 element)
Learning FormatBlended learning: e-learning and physical workshops
Assessment Detailsstudy assessment: You will submit a case study assessment and complete some worksheets. You will have 6 weeks to complete the assessment following your practical course and you will need to answer some questions based on the eLearning, conduct a postural and movement assessment with your client and produce plans on the findings. You'll also need to submit a presentation.
Qualifications AchievedVTCT Level 3 Diploma in Mat Pilates, Transcend Level 4 Certificate in Teaching Advanced Pilates Based Matwork, VTCT Level 3 Award in Adapting Physical Activity for Antenatal and Postnatal Clients, Pilates for Common Orthopaedic Conditions
