Course Structure
Understanding food allergies: This unit will look at what food allergies are and what causes them.
Types of food allergies: Common food allergens will be looked at, including peanuts, milk, egg, wheat, and seafood. How these allergens cause problems to the individual will be learned, along with the common signs and symptoms. Statistical information will also be given regarding the prevalence of allergies in the UK.
Diagnosing and managing food allergies: In this unit, you will look at testing for allergies and tips on how to manage the conditions that may be present from a food allergy.
Understanding food intolerances: Although they may present the individual with similar symptoms to a food allergy, food intolerances are very different. This unit will look at the differences between an allergy and an intolerance, along with identifying some common food intolerances. Some intolerances will also be investigated that have been seen to be slightly controversial and debated as to whether they are true intolerances for an individual.
Supporting individuals with an allergy or intolerance: This unit will supply you with some tools to be able to aid another individual that may be suffering from a food allergy or intolerance. Further reading and information to support sites and groups will also be given for you to continue to learn about this subject and be able to advise individuals appropriately on the correct course of action.
