Increasing PT income by 50% over 3 years

While essential CPD and training is frequently carried out for their lifeguard staff, the main challenges for LED were “What do we do to upskill our fitness teams?”. LED managers have said that: ‘The truth was, we delivered very little training in a structured way! The main barriers to training fitness staff was generally cost!’

Increasing PT income by 50% over 3 years

While essential CPD and training is frequently carried out for their lifeguard staff, the main challenges for LED were “What do we do to upskill our fitness teams?”. The Challenge

While essential CPD and training is frequently carried out for their lifeguard staff, main challenges for LED was the question “What do we do to upskill our fitness teams?”. LED managers have said that: ‘The truth was very little [training] in a structured way! The main barriers to training fitness staff was generally cost!’

‘We felt the importance of face to face courses was not only to train gym staff as required by the industry in various disciplines but to engage Group Ex instructors to enable us to expand our class and activity products.’

The Solution

Taking into consideration the skills gaps we worked with LED Leisure on developing a 3 stage approach which included…

Whole Team Engagement

Taking into consideration the skills gap, we developed a 3-stage approach to target:

  • Online CPD and Advice

  • Face-to-face courses

  • Comprehensive Digital Education

‘We felt the importance of face to face courses was not only to train gym staff as required by the industry in various disciplines but to engage Group Ex instructors to enable us to expand our class and activity products.’

Developing The Member Journey

Upskilling staff and enhanced customer experience

Added nutrition as part of the member journey with the help of ProZone – this was subsequently made compulsory for all gym instructors

Behaviour change was added as another module available to staff to help them understand the variety of customers they help.

The Health Agenda

Adding the Exercise referral qualification and are looking into Mental Wellbeing modules to coincide with national and local public health agendas.

This allows LED to work closer with the NHS and reach more people in the community (a key driver in their business plan).

"The investment in training has allowed us to develop our PT program with over 50% increase in income over the past 3 years, develop a Teen Gym program across the organisation which has increased attendances and gym income along with our junior membership and the development of our swim schools. We are now able to provide more functional classes and can have contingencies in place for our GP Referral schemes."
