We are delighted to share the news that Andy King has joined Future Fit for Business as an Associate Director. With over three decades of experience in the health and wellbeing sector, Andy brings a wealth of knowledge and leadership to our team.
Andy King’s career is marked by significant contributions to the health and physical activity sector. As the former CEO of multiple Trusts and current Chair of GM Active, Andy has been instrumental in driving transformative initiatives that align with population health outcomes. This, in addition to his role as Director at Miova, further underscores his effective leadership of the sector and commitment to fostering innovation.
In his previous roles, Andy has worked closely with Future Fit for Business on several projects, including during the pandemic’s challenging times, where Future Fit supported GM Active operators to stay in touch and upskill their teams. In addition, Andy supported Future Fit and John Oxley in the creation of the renowned Transformational Leadership Programme, which aims to steer the transition from being ‘fitness and facilities’ managers to becoming future leaders of public health, well-being and communities.
Speaking about his experiences with Future Fit, Andy remarked, “the team impressed me with their ‘let’s just do it’ philosophy that was not without risk, yet they had the courage to crack on. I can only work with people who exhibit complete trust and honesty and want to make a tangible, measurable difference and the team have demonstrated these qualities consistently with GM Active.”
Earlier this year Future Fit partnered with Andy to develop ‘The Conveners,’ a podcast that showcases how the leisure sector is successfully working with health and social care across the UK and explores ways to improve the nation’s health further. The Conveners Podcast embodies a shared commitment to advancing the pivot to active wellbeing and fostering cross-sector collaboration to address pressing health challenges. The podcast has already had some high-profile guests such as William Roberts the CEO of the Royal Society of Public Health, Davina Deniszczyc from Nuffield Health and Dr Hussain Al-Zubaidi, all debating how the sector is already working with health effectively and how more can be done. The guest list looking forward is arguably even more impressive as the impact of the show grows, with some household-name politicians and leaders agreeing to come on and debate the issues over the next few months. Andy remarked, “By supporting the podcast, the team has made it possible for me to meet amazing people who are doing great things already working with health in a myriad of ways across the country.”
The appointment of Andy as Associate Director, reflects Future Fit for Businesses’ commitment to draw on experienced leaders to help drive growth and innovation across the sector. Andy’s vision aligns seamlessly with Future Fit’s values of being fearless, impactful, and trusted. His appointment is expected to strengthen the ability to transform public sector leisure into a vital component of a national wellbeing service.
Andy expressed his enthusiasm about joining Future Fit for Business, saying, “My purpose now is to help local authorities and operators develop their leisure services to collaborate more effectively with health and social care. I intend to support Lewis Thompson and the wider team to focus on the workforce development aspect of this transformation and help create new solutions with clients to suit their needs and aspirations.”
Rob Johnson, CEO of Future Fit Group commented “We are delighted to share that Andy King has joined our Future Fit team as Associate Director. His extensive experience in collaborative leadership and cultural change will undoubtedly contribute to our organisation’s growth. As we continue to expand and enhance our offerings, particularly in the realm of active wellbeing, Andy’s expertise will be invaluable.”
As Associate Director, Andy will be responsible for supporting initiatives that align with Future Fit for Businesses’ broader vision of supporting the development of the sector. His focus will be on enhancing collaboration between leisure services, national organisations and health and social care, fostering workforce development, and creating innovative solutions tailored to client needs.
